Hoka Café Golf Island PIK

Hoka Café is probably one of the more popular cafes around Golf Island PIK area. Specializing in scones and baked goods, I’ve seen numerous contents online that people posted, making this place somewhat viral in the online sphere. I actually first tried Hoka’s scone at one of the bazaars in Jakarta that they joined and it was good. I haven’t had the chance to visit their offline cafe until early this year when me and a couple of friends decided to get an afternoon dessert at their Golf Island PIK location.

We got there around 2:30 pm and the place was full. The staff told us we have to wait for our table of five and so we put our name down on the waitlist. 50 minutes later, they finally have a table for us and we got seated at one of the tables at the very end of the room. 

Hoka has plenty of sweet and savory scones to choose from as well as coffee, tea and matcha to pair with your scones or baked goods of your choice. They also have a couple of main dish and breakfast menu in case you want to get something more fulfilling. 

What we ordered:

• Paddington Scone

• Earl Grey Scone

• Pesto Scone

• Corn Cheese Cup

• Hojicha Latte

• Iced Kiwi Jasmine Tea

• Iced Pineapple Jasmine Tea

All the scones that we ordered were pretty good and tasted delicious. Personally, out of all our orders, I like the sweet scones better than the savory ones. Their Hojicha Latte was also pretty good. Not too thick, not too bitter, and not too sweet. The most surprising thing from our order is how good their Kiwi Jasmine Tea and Pineapple Jasmine Tea are. They’re super light and refreshing but still tasted good. Definitely something that you don’t find often in most cafes around here and I’d totally recommend you to try them if you’re into tea. 

The ambience of the place is pretty nice but the noise level inside can be quite high when it’s a full house since they have a pretty high ceiling and the acoustic of the room is not necessarily the best one. When we were there, there were a big group of aunties (12+ people or so) who were chatting quite loudly and making Tiktok videos inside the cafe. It was pretty chaotic and at some point, the noise gotten unbearable our group decided to just leave the cafe. So if you’re looking for a quiet cafe to hang out at, this might not be the best choice. Or to be fair, it probably depends on the other patrons who are dining in with you. If you meet a quieter crowd, what happened to me might not happen to you. The cafe is pretty busy during most days so you might have to wait for a table if you come during their peak hours. 

But other than that, I definitely wouldn’t mind coming back again for their scones.

Again | Coffee Sound BSD

Two weeks ago, my friend asked me to go with her to visit AGAIN | Coffee Sound that just opened its newest location at Enchanté Business Park BSD. We went in the evening during the first day of their soft opening and the place was pretty busy. I first thought it was packed with people who were invited the owners. But turned out, the owner said the crowd’s literally just regular customers who found out that they’re doing the soft opening that day and decided to come to check it out. Some came from Bintaro area and some are people who live in the area. Pretty cool. 

The spacious two-story cafe has a minimalist, sleek interior with cool metallic grey surfaces dominating the space. On the first floor there’s a DJ booth next to the coffee bar with plenty of space for people to mingle around while listening to the live music and there are more seatings on the patio, second floor and balcony area. Apparently this is their biggest location yet (bigger than their Blok M flagship store and Bintaro locations).

☕ Signature Black Sesame (59k)

Double Ristretto, Black Sesame Cream, Milk, Toasted Sesame

Tried my friend’s Signature Black Sesame order and I liked the black sesame cream they put on top. Since I’m not very well-versed in coffee, I’m not gonna give a rating on this one. But it was pretty good and my friend also said it’s good and she liked it. Oh, I believe this is also a BSD-exclusive menu.

Iced Chocolate, Signature Cream, Cookie Crumble

It was 6 pm when we got there and I wasn’t going to drink any matcha at that hour so at first, I was going to try one of the non-coffee options—the Butter Spark—but unfortunately it was sold out. So I ended up ordering their Babyscotch and it was good. Loved the iced chocolate and cream combo—not too heavy with just the right amount of sweetness that I like. And the cookie crumble’s delicious too.

Amah Kopitown Golf Island PIK

From my first visit to Amah Kopitown at Golf Island PIK back in January, a month after its grand opening to the public. The kopitam’s interior is pretty nice and I like the fact that they don’t have a high ceiling on the first floor which helps with the noise level inside the restaurant. There are more seatings on the second floor as well. 

🥚 Half-Boiled Eggs (20k)

The half-boiled eggs were a bit overcooked for my personal preference.

🍞 Kaya Toast (28k)

The Kaya Toast was just okay.

🍽️ Curry Noodle Amah (65k) | 8.5/10

Nice noodle texture, thick curry broth, bold flavors. I like it and actually ordered this again on my next visit. Also worth noting, their seasonings run quite salty here so their food can be too salty for some people.

🍽️ Penang Char Kwetiaw (65k) | 8.5/10

Smoky kwetiaw, strong umami belacan flavor, generous toppings. This dish runs quite salty too.

🥛 Iced Milo Godzilla (35k)

Pretty good. Solid basic kopitiam menu.

A friend of mine also said their Nasi Hainam is good, but the last time I was there and tried to order that menu, it was sold out. So probably need to go back again to try their Nasi Hainam.

Bakerman Dirty Croissants & Cookies Mochi Croissants

Last summer when Bakerman (@bakerman.id) launched their Dirty Croissants & Cookies Mochi Croissants series, they sent me some to try. I’ve shared my review on my Instagram stories back then but thought I share it here too on the blog since I actually like these croissants and all the menu is still around until today. So here it goes. 

Bakerman is one of the more well-known bakeries in Jakarta. Part of the Artisan Kuliner Group, they prided themselves as an artisanal bakehouse with American-influenced dining. Their first flagship store was opened in Ashta District 8 in November 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic. I still remember it was during the viral croffle era and they launched a version of their croffle that made people lined up for hours to just get the taste of it. Since then, they’ve came up with different unique menus and collaborated with different brands to create more exciting products that are also keeping up with the ever changing trends for their bakery. These Dirty Croissants and Cookies Mochi Croissants series are just some examples of that.

Dirty Croissants

For their Dirty Croissants series, they’ve launched 3 different flavors: Vanilla Kinako, Pistachio and Chicken Floss. The Vanilla Kinako and Pistacho are the sweet options while the Chicken Floss is the only savory option out of the three. 

My #1 pick is the Vanilla Kinako. It has a light cream fillings and not too sweet. The flavor is pretty on point.

My #2 pick is the Pistachio. The nutty pistachio flavor is pretty nice and I love the mix of textures in the bite. This one is also not too sweet.

Cookies Mochi Croissants

For the Cookies Mochi Croissants series, they have 2 different flavors: The Matcha and The Black Sesame, both are my favorite flavors actually. 

Between the two though, I like the Black Sesame more. On the outside there are crispy, flaky croissant with gooey black sesame cookie on top. Combined those with the soft chewy mochi with black sesame paste on the inside. The ratio of everything was pretty perfect. It was so goood.

Pro tip: Air fry the croissant before you eat it and it’ll make the whole thing so much better.

The Matcha is pretty good too actually, but I like the ratio of the fillings on the black sesame better.

Also, the portion of these croissants is huge btw. One croissant is good for 2 or maybe even 3 people.
