12th Seoul Silver Grass Festival

October 20, 2014 by greysuitcase in Events, Weekend, Seoul, South Korea

Last Friday, I went to Haneul Park (하늘공원) — located within the Seoul World Cup Park (월드컵공원 Subway Line 6) — to see the Silver Grass Festival that is going on right now with seoulstateofmind and inner.pastiche. It was a much needed break from all the studying that I've been doing all week so a walk in the park instead of reading books and hangul characters was definitely a more appealing option for a Friday afternoon. It was weekend after all :)

The weather was super duper nice that day — warm sunshine with blue sky, what more can I ask, really (I'm really a sucker for blue sky :p). This was my first time going to Haneul Park so I was imagining that it's just like any other park that you can just walk to. Apparently, it's located on some sort of a hill where you need to do a short hike up the stairs before you actually arrive at the park. After we got to the top, we just wandered around and enjoyed the view of waves of silver grass around the park. It was very pretty :) Anyways, the festival is going on from October 16th to 24th so anybody who's interested to go still can make it this week :) And oh, you might encounter lots of ahjummas wearing bright hiking outfits in the park taking pictures (at least we did).

// special thanks to Ken who was being a good sport modeling for us :) //

Visited Sinchon Hwangso Gopchang, which apparently one of the most popular gopchang 맛집 around Sinchon area. I was looking forward trying out gopchang, but my friend who ordered for all of us ended up ordering daechang (대창) (large intestine) instead (I think). Anyway, after our order came out, we have to wait for a good while. After a couple of minutes of waiting, the ahjummoni came over to our table and pretty much cooked the whole thing. After that, it's another couple of minutes of waiting time again. I think this is probably not a good place to go when you really hungry and want to eat right away.

After they say it's all cooked and ready to be eaten, we started eating. It's my first time eating daechang and it certainly has an interesting taste. It has rubbery and chewy texture and after eating a couple of pieces, it's very oily. I'm not quite sure if I like it or hate it. I might need to give it another go :p Anyway, we also ordered the fried rice, so after we ate all the daechang, they cooked the fried rice in front of us. Next time I come here, I'll try their famous gopchang for sure.

Museum of Modern History of Korea

October 12, 2014 by greysuitcase in Travel

Came across a charming museum in Heyri Art Village, Museum of Modern History of Korea (한국 근현대사 박물관). That time we ran out of time so I didn't get to go inside the museum. But the things that they have in front of the building were very interesting. Maybe next time.

Subi

October 09, 2014 by greysuitcase in Food

Our pit stop for lunch during out Heyri Art Village visit was Subi, a Ramen shop inside the village. The place has some cute decorations and we met a nice lady who worked there that we ended up chatting with. Knowing that we are learning Korean, she even offered to introduce us to her kids to practice our Korean. Definitely going to go back again if I have the time :)

WWIM10Seoul

October 05, 2014 by greysuitcase in Events, Weekend

This past Saturday, I got a chance to join an instameet in Seoul that was hosted by Ken Lee from Seoulstateofmind (check out his blog if you haven't. He has a very cool photo collections). This was my first instameet experience and I got to say it was pretty interesting and fun. More than 40 people showed up for the event and everybody is from everywhere. It's kinda cool to meet people from different parts of the world. Since the group was kinda big, people split into smaller groups when exploring the areas. I walked together with 3 other people who I met that day for the first time and our group kinda get lost because we're pretty much always behind. Still, it was fun playing catch up and trying to find out where the rest of the group was :)

We started our route from Hyehwa Station (혜화역) and hiked up to Naksan Park (낙산공원) to see the view from the top. After that we headed down and explored the Ihwa Mural Village (이화 벽화마을), where they have these cool artworks painted on the walls around the neighborhood. Cheonggyecheon stream (청계천) was the next stop and for the last stop we made our way to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (동대문디자인플라자) and pretty much dispersed from there. I got some good shots, made new friends, and had a good time during the 4 hours we were doing the photowalk. Definitely going to go again if there's going to be one in the future. And special thanks to Ken Lee for organizing the event!
