3F Lobby Seoul

Walking into 3F Lobby is like walking into the reception area of a small independent architect’s studio. The only difference is the said reception area has been transformed into a cafe where people can walk in, get a cup of coffee (or milk tea in my case) and hang around the space for a bit, even if you’re not a client of the architect.

Located on the third floor of an unassuming walk-up in Yongsan neighborhood (용산구), the cafe’s concept is clearly stated by the tagline printed under the logo on their signage—‘hand drip coffee brewed by architects’. The idea is simple, straightforward and a very good use of the space that they have considering that the architects only use one corner of the room for their private working studio. The rest of the modest space is furnished with minimal modern unique furnitures that give visitors both a collaborative atmosphere where you can discuss your ideas with your table mates as well as a private intimate mood if you want to be left alone with your thoughts. 

Earl Grey Milk Tea (얼그레이 밀크티) ₩6,800 | 8.5/10

I ordered their Earl Grey Milk Tea and was surprised that it was served with an ice ball. I thought that was a nice touch to the presentation of the drink. The milk tea was good and not too sweet. The ratio of the milk and tea was just how I like it. They also give a cube of brownie on the side with the drink which was a nice surprise. 

Other than coffee, non-coffee drinks, tea, and desserts, they also serve Whiskey and Highball on the menu. Since the place is a bit small, it can get a tad noisy when all the tables are fully occupied. I also have an inkling that this place might be busy on the weekends seeing that there are chairs lined up in front of the cafe for people who are waiting for a table (I went on a weekday so it wasn’t a full house. But considering it’s a weekday, the place was pretty packed). But all and all, this was a cool space to check out if you’re looking for a cafe to hang out at around Yongsan area.

Unvanish Hannam • 언베니쉬 한남

Unvanish Hannam (언베니쉬 한남) is a Korean brand that sells perfume, body oil, hand wash, body wash, and life fragrance. Stumbled upon this store during one of my shopping trip with my friend around Hannam area. Saw their posters plastered on the walls outside the building and we decided to climbed up the stairs to the second floor to check the place out.

Pleasant aromatic scent greeted us as soon as we stepped into the store. The place isn’t too big. But just like the majority of the shops around here, it is well-designed. Their products are displayed around the space that is decorated with modern minimalistic furniture and fixtures. One corner resembles a small living room and on the other they have an open bathroom display area with bathtub and sink where you can use to test their hand or body wash.

Out of all the scents, both me and my friend like the Sea of Green Life the best. But unfortunately, all the Sea of Green products were out of stock when we were there so we couldn’t purchase any. We took it as a sign that we should go back again next time. If you’re looking for perfume around Hannam-dong area, this place is worth checking out.

Lick Sip • 릭십

Lick Sip (릭십) is a small cafe bar in Hannam-dong that just opened last spring in April 2024. Their menu consist of coffee, non-coffee, alcoholic drinks as well limited options of baked goods and desserts. Although cafe serving booze is not uncommon in Seoul, their Tipsy Treats selections are definitely one of the more unique menu I’ve seen that made me want to visit this place.

Their Tipsy Treats includes Boozy Ice Cream with flavors such as:
🍨 Milk + Bourbon (밀크 + 버번)
🍨 Milk + Amaretto + Rum (밀크 + 아마레토 + 럼)
🍨 Chocolate + Single Malt (초콜릿 + 싱글몰트)
🍨 Yogurt + Makgeolli (요거트 + 막걸리)

They also have Boozy Drinks like Baileys Latte (베일리 라떼), Baileys Chocolate Latte (베일리 초코 라떼), Wine Smoothie (와인 스무디), Whiskey Affogato (위스키 아포가토), and Coconut Smoothie with Rum (코코넛 스무디 + 럼).

There are about 15 seatings inside the cafe, six of them are shared on a communal table and the rest are split into paired seatings around the space. There are also about 12 outdoor seatings that are available if you choose to sit outside. 

I visited this cafe during my last trip to Seoul in spring, a month after their grand opening. It was a Sunday afternoon so the place was pretty packed. But me and my friend managed to get a seat on one of the small outdoor table. The weather was really nice so sitting outside was actually perfect to enjoy the afternoon breeze and to people watch a little bit. 

Iced Earl Grey Milk Tea (얼그레이 밀크티) ₩6,500 | 8/10

I ordered the Iced Earl Grey Milk Tea and it was solid. Not too sweet and the tea is pretty fragrant. 

Einspänner (아인슈페너) ₩6,500 | 8/10

My friend ordered the Einspänner and she said it was good. The coffee is bitter and the cream is sweet creating a good balance when you sipped the drink.

Noise level inside the cafe when I was visiting was pretty high. The music was playing pretty loud inside the cafe but since we sat outside, it was actually still pretty enjoyable for me. Since I didn’t end up trying their Tipsy Treats, definitely want to go back again to this place to try one of their Boozy Ice Cream or Boozy Drinks.

Wui Tea House & Restaurant • 웨이 티하우스 앤 레스토랑

Wui Tea House & Restaurant (웨이 티하우스 앤 레스토랑) is a Chinese restaurant that serves Hong Kong cuisines that is located in Yongsan (용산) neighborhood. Stepping into Wui feels like being transported to one of the Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong. The dimly lit space is filled booth seatings for two and four, providing an intimate atmosphere and privacy for patrons. It feels like a place where a spy protagonist of a movie might be having a secret meeting to devise a grand plan for something greater. 

Staying true to the restaurant’s concept, the interior is decorated with green neon hanja sign, mahjong tiles, Chinese books and liquor bottles, and a projector that’s playing scenes from old Hong Kong movies on the wall. All these things will certainly remind you of Hong Kong and a nice touch to the overall dining experience.

First time I visited Wui was when I was craving for some Chinese food near the end of my two months trip in Seoul. Missing a little taste of home, I searched for a Chinese restaurant when I was exploring Yongsan neighborhood and found Wui Tea House & Restaurant on one of the search results. The menu looked interesting and has some things that I wanted to eat so I ended up giving the place a try.

I arrived at around 8 pm and the place was pretty busy. It wasn’t a full house but the majority of the tables were occupied with patrons that were sharing meals with their dinner companions over animated conversations and soft jazz music that can be heard around the room. I was immediately seated at one of the booth for two in the middle aisle of the restaurant and given the menu to look over. Their menu is designed looking like a newspaper and I have to say it’s pretty well-designed. I really like the overall layout and typography and it feels very on brand with the aesthetic of the restaurant.

Their menu is pretty extensive and even though there were so many interesting things I wanted to try, I ended up deciding on three menus to order.

Cold Chicken with Chili Sauce 구수제 (닭고기:국내산) ₩25,000 | 9.5/10

The chicken was tender and juicy and the chili oil was super delicious. It was spicy and salty and the dish was nicely seasoned. It was a bit on the spicy side for my personal preference (since I can’t really eat spicy food in general), but the spice level was still manageable for me since I ate it with rice. This was the first dish that came out and honestly I was really impressed.

Typhoon Shelter Style Shrimp 비풍당 ₩35,000 | 9.5/10

Cantonese style fried shrimps topped with fried garlic chips, dried chilis, and scallions.

The shrimps were fresh and the size was pretty big. It was nicely fried with golden crispy batter on the outside and the texture of the meat was still chewy on the inside. The crispy fried garlic chips, dried chilis, and scallions were also really good. It’s savory and the seasoning was just right. Ate them with steamed rice and it was a really satisfying bite for me. Definitely another impressive dish that I really enjoyed. 

Hangzhou Style Braised Pork Belly 동파육 ₩19,000 | 9.5/10

The pork belly was the dish that surprised me the most. I’ve had this kind of dish before in the past so flavor wise, it was familiar flavors that reminded me of my grandma’s cooking during Chinese New Year. The brown sauce was sweet and savory and absolutely rich in flavors. Very nice and balanced sauce.

Now let’s talk about the pork belly. The dish was served with a side of scissors next to it so I was assuming that the meat might be a little tough. So I took the scissors and stuck it into the meat, expecting that it would require a little of an effort from my part to cut this thick piece of meat. But the second the metal blades disappeared into the brown sauce, I realized how wrong I was because. Oh. My. Gosh. The meat was very, super, extremely tender! They really did slow cooked this meat until it was buttery soft. Honestly, no scissors were needed for this dish because you can easily cut the meat with your spoon (although cutting it with the scissors did make the slices of meat more even and prettier I admit). The meat even fell apart when I picked it up with my chopsticks. The pork belly was definitely amazing and this was a really delicious and nicely executed dish.

Service at this place was also really great. I was served by (I think) the manager of the restaurant and he asked me where I’m from. He thought I was a Hongkonger and it led to more small talks after. During and after the meal, he ended up giving me a couple of drinks to try as well as desserts on the house. I really appreciate the hospitality and the kind gesture which made my whole dining experience even more enjoyable than it already was.

Zhuge Liang Baijiu 제갈량 백주 38%vol 빠이지오우 (諸葛亮 白酒)

I don’t know a lot about Baijiu (Chinese liquor) but this one was pretty smooth but strong for my personal preference.

Hong Kong Milk Tea 홍콩 밀크티 | 8/10

Fragrant milk tea and not too sweet. I liked it. Although I did taste a little bit of coffee when I had it so there’s a possibility that it was Yuenyeung (Hong Kong-style milk tea and coffee) instead of Hong Kong Milk Tea. Honestly, I’m not too sure. But nevertheless, it was good.

Almond Pudding 아몬드 푸딩 | 8/10

The almond pudding was silky smooth and overall it wasn’t too sweet. 

Flower Candy | 8/10

The candy was also not too sweet and has subtle flavors of flowers. Pretty interesting dessert and a good option if you prefer something light and sweet to end your meal.

The ambience of this place was pretty nice and relaxing, although it could get pretty loud during lunch/dinner rush. They also have different menus for lunch and dinner. During lunch they serve lighter dishes that are usually served at cha chaan teng (Hong Kong’s casual cafes/diners) and during dinner they serve heavier traditional Chinese dishes that can be paired with baijiu (clear Chinese liquor) if you choose to. 

If you ever want to try a great Chinese restaurant or delicious Hong Kong cuisines in Seoul, I would definitely recommend paying Wui Tea House & Restaurant a visit. Their food is one of the best food I’ve had in Seoul and I would definitely go back again next time I’m craving some delicious Chinese food when I’m in Seoul.

Seoul Angmusae Yongsan • 서울앵무새 용산점

Seoul Angmusae Yongsan (서울앵무새 용산점) is a bakery cafe that’s well-known for their wide selections of colorful sweet and savory baked goods and desserts. They had their grand opening in May 26, 2023 two years after their first Seongsu flagship location that was opened in March 21, 2021. The Yongsan location is definitely bigger than their flagship location, seeing how it occupies the first three floors of a five-story building in the middle of Yongnidangil (용리단길), one of the more recent up and coming areas in Seoul that is filled with new cafes and restaurants. The orange facade with colorful illustrations of their parrot mascot (Angmusae means parrots in Korean) definitely attract attention and make passerby’s heads turn. One of the reason contributing to their popularity (I believe) is because their visually pleasing desserts Instagram Reels went viral and were shared over and over on social media (as I’m writing this post one of their Reels has an impressive 91.5 million views).

The first floor of the cafe is where the bakery is. You walk in, get a tray and a tongs and start walking towards the display area to pick your choice. It’s hard to make one I tell you since the choices are pretty overwhelming. From savory buns to sweet desserts, you have plenty of things to choose from. This is also where you place your drinks order where you can pick it up on the second floor. 

The second and third floor are where all the seatings are. The place is pretty big with plenty of tables and chairs available. The interior is filled with eclectic modern furnitures and colorful, vibrant decorations, giving a trendy contemporary energy to the space. One side of the room is covered with folding windows that were fully opened since it was a cloudy summer day and the weather wasn’t too hot when I was visiting. The tables next to the opened windows are a perfect for people watching since you got the view of the street below. 

Black Sesame Latte 흑임자 라떼 ₩7,000 | 6.5/10

I ordered this not knowing they put coffee with the latte. Since I’m not a coffee drinker and the coffee in this drink was pretty strong, it tasted just okay to me. The black sesame was (I believe) in the cream/froth part on top which was served with cacao powder sprinkled in shape of Seoul Angmusae’s mascot. I asked if they could make the Black Sesame Latte without coffee and they said they can’t. Too bad. 

Chicken Basil Soft Bun 치킨바질소프트번 ₩8,500 | 8/10

The Chicken Basil Soft Bun was pretty good. There’s a good balance between the savoriness from the basil pesto and the sweetness form the cranberries and sun-dried tomatoes. It was a pretty satisfying flavorful bite. 

Smoke Duck White Bun 훈제오리화이트번 ₩7,500 | 7/10

The Smoke Duck White Bun was more on the savory side. They nailed the smokiness of the duck meat, the texture is not tough but it’s a bit dry for my personal preference. So did the bun for that matter. It was a bit dry on the outside but fortunately the inside is pretty soft. The honey mustard sauce was pretty good and it paired well with the duck. It was an okay dish for me.

Also, I do wish all the buns were warmer (since they put everything out on display, everything was lukewarm).

Angmusae Egg Madeleine Vanilla & Lemon ₩4,800 each | 7/10

Bought the Vanilla and Lemon Angmusae Egg Madeleine to go and the packaging is pretty cute. Taste wise, they’re a little bit on the dry side for me, but flavors were pretty good and not too sweet.

I went to the third floor to see what the place looks like and it’s pretty much giving similar vibes to the second floor. The difference is probably there’s only one sofa (instead of three) on this floor but there are more chairs and tables available.

The music playing in this cafe when I was there was the Top 100 Pop Hits playlist and almost all the English pop songs that were playing I actually recognized or familiar with. Noise level was medium to high I’d say, depending on how busy the place is. With how big the cafe is and the wide variety of menu that they have, I think this is a good place to hang out at.
